Canal Accidents on
Rise
Though no fatalities or major damage has occurred to
date, the Parks Department is deeply concerned at the
rash of boating accidents in the Canal Basins.
"It's these new
aquapods", said one official, "they hover and
skim at such speeds that there's just not enough room to
navigate. The new Model Z52 seems to be the
biggest problem. With speeds doubling that of its
predecessor, the new Z52 seems completely at odds with
the normal recreational boats, which roam in great
numbers.
To further add to the
problem, after-hour patrons from Kroton's Night Club
have taken a disturbing number of "after-hours joy
rides".
The Parks spokeman went
on to say, "We're monitoring the situation closely
and we may have to go back to the old, no-power,
vehicles."
These incidents come at
a time when the Parks Department is finalizing its plans
to develop an island system in the Central Lake
area. The study had been postponed when a series
of odd leakage areas began appearing at the perimeter
waterways. |
