DIANA, IN MEMORIAM It is ten years ago precisely that Diana, The Princess of Wales died. And in memory of her life and death I thought it appropriate to include a few thoughts here on Astrolutely.com. They come in the form of a chapter in my book, Starstruck.

Weekly Hello!
1st December 2008 - 7th December 2008
I am feeling very pink as I write to you. There is a beautiful Venus-Jupiter conjunction up above, which you may be able to see just after dawn over the Eastern horizon, and Venus and Jupiter – the lesser and greater benefics in astrological jargon – are a beautiful combination inspiring love and harmony to flow through our lives. I suspect there will be more marriage proposals this week than any other this year, so if you're ready to pop the question, you have the stars behind you. Next week, however, is a whole other story so now might be a good time to shore up a rocky situation and ensure our precious ducks are neatly in a row.

Month Ahead
1st December 2008 - 31st December 2008
There have been better Decembers... The usual suspects are with us this holiday month - Uranus, Saturn and Pluto - so we will need to stockpile good cheer and stoicism in the face of the familiar reversals and revelations associated with these planetary combos. Flying in the face of this generally volatile astro- scape is the Venus- Jupiter conjunction of the 1st. You may be able to see this conjunction in the dawn sky since it will appear as a very bright star in the east. Good things come out of a Venus- Jupiter aspect, whether you share an especially romantic moment with someone you love or there is happy news to celebrate. But make the most of it because the rest of December is hard going. Put a ring around the 12th because not only is there a full moon, which tends to amplify emotions and bring all sorts of chapters to an end, but Mars and Uranus/Saturn are in square and Mercury is conjunct Pluto - a recipe for upheaval and confrontation if ever there was one. The other side of this astrological coin, however, is breakthrough and brand new starts. Pluto is with us for Christmas and the New Year (a sun- Pluto conjunction on the 22nd and a Mars- Pluto conjunction on the 28th) so if you were hoping secrets would stay under wraps, that the economy would turn itself around and there would be no national or international stand- offs, think again. Fortunately, Mercury and Jupiter see the old year out, reminding us of the importance of hope and the power of positive- thinking, especially when you've got a glass of fizzy stuff in your hand!

Penny Thornton 2008: Hello!
Our summer stars are dominated by the eclipses of 1st and 16th August. And of these two the total solar eclipse in Leo on the 1st is the most important. All eclipses have a fateful quality about them, whether they bring new lovers together, welcome a genius into our midst or cause a global event that takes our breath away. So, with the Beijing Olympics opening on the 8th August and closing on the 24th we can at the very least expect some controversial elements to these games, if not a full blown act of violence. (And just in case you're interested, the Chinese have set a very auspicious time for the opening of the Games: 08 08 08 pm on the 8th,which puts mystical and sacrificial Pisces on the Ascendant...) Pluto's entry into Capricorn in January earmarked this as the beginning of a new era for China, and the Olympic Games and the completion of the Shanghai World Financial Centre (the world's tallest building) are symbols of the growing dominion of this nation.
Saturn is currently in the sign of Virgo, and the last time this planet was here was between July 1978 and September 1980, which gave Europe two of the hottest summers on record. (So, bulk-buy the sunscreen and invest in some air-conditioning.) Possibly of even more interest, however, is that Saturn in Virgo is particularly favourable for women in politics (Margaret Thatcher being elected as Britain's first female Prime Minister in 1979 – a position she held until 1990) so Hillary Clinton has at least one astrological factor in her favour, and although this has denied her the Democratic nomination, she can expect a stellar position in the next government, if not some further accolades. There is an aura of austerity to a Virgoan Saturn, which is already apparent in the way that we are all having to downsize due to the credit squeeze and make a concerted effort to combat the ravages of global warming. Hem lines traditionally come down in a recession or a depression so flowing maxi dresses for the summer and long skirts for autumn/winter could all be hanging in our wardrobes.
Jupiter will be retrograding through Capricorn all summer, taking us back in time, whether we are forced to confront the error of our spending habits, our eating patterns or our relationship addictions! It will be a good time to right wrongs of all kinds while at the same time affirming our infinite self value. On a more serious note, however, we should remain somewhat suspicious of any positive forecasts about the economy, because according to the astrology, this is going to take a long time to fix.
It would be good to think that the planets would let us off our dreary life lessons for the summer but even under the hot sun and blue skies there is work to be done. Fortunately, there are some lovely influences surrounding our affairs, especially in July, so it is a case of making the most of what we have rather than pursuing that crock of gold at the end of a rainbow. Living in the moment is the recipe for happiness, and certainly my tip for a seriously happy summer. Enjoy.
