Marlborough - Other, Marlborough, New Zealand
Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards ( only 5 Golds given in the Pinot Gris Class ). Owner and winemaker Mike Just ( ex Lawsons Dry Hills winemaker for 8 years winnig 20 Gold Medals and 6 Trophies ) planted his unique site in 2000. One of the highest vineyards in Marlborough it is unirragated, close planted and environmentally friendly practices all result in concentrated small bunches of fruit. This is a winery to watch. This delicious pint gris was handled mostly in tanks, but 20% was fermented with indigenous yeasts in seasoned French oak barriques. It's a fleshy, full bodied wine with fresh, vibrant pear and spice flavours showing a touch of complexity and excellent depth and harmony."

Forrest Estate Winery, Marlborough, New Zealand
Gold Medal at the Air NZ Wine Awards ( 11 Golds given in this class ). An excellent results and follows on from their triple Gold Medal Winning 2007."Delicious in its youth, the 2008 has a full-bloomed bouquet, leading into a off dry light wine ( only 8.5% alcohol ) with citrusy, delicate, finely balanced flavours." This is in much the same style as those lovely German rieslings that are so good in summer.

Marlborough - Other, Marlborough, New Zealand
Gold Medal at the Air New Wine Awards, Gold at Sydney Top 100 and 5 stars in Winestate Magazine. ( 13 Golds awarded in this class ) .Seriously hot sauvignon from low yielding vines in the Awatere Valley. 5 Stars in Winestate "Fabulous pungent aromas of gooseberries, nettles and even some redcurrants - very varietal. Excellent palate weight and flavour intensity; it’s soft yet with excellent structure and balance." A producer who keeps achieving amazing show results but has resisted the temptation of increasing his price so as to build brand awareness. Great thinking! Enjoy

Nelson - Other, Nelson, New Zealand
Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards, Gold at the Sydney Top 100. Another steal from Waimea. This is normally $19.00 and is a superb sauvignon as illustrated by the results. For a textural component, some of the ferments underwent frequent bâtonnage, or lees stirring – for over a month after the completion of ferment. “Concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with strong pea pod, lemon grass, tomato leaf, mineral and passion fruit flavours. A mouth-watering and very appealing wine with lingering fruit flavours.” Bob Campbell

Gisborne & Hawkes Bay - Other, Gisborne & Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards, Gold at the Top 100 and Gold at the NZ International Wine Show. We've just been given a sharp deal and now its ridiculously priced for a wine of this quality. He has supreme vineyards at Te Awanga ( close to Clearview ) and all the fruit is micro managed right through to bottling. "Aromas of manderin, pineapple and peach with a nutty seductively powerful ripe citrus palate. Barrel fermented and lees stirred, a fine textured and complex wine." This was lees stirred weekly for a year and has had a full malolatic fermentation which softens and enriches the wine. Beautiful chardie

Coopers Creek, Auckland, New Zealand
Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards and Gold at the Mercedes Wine Show. "An undoubted N.Z.classic so not only can we applaud its sheer quality and excellent value, but also praise its pedigree. Lemony, intense and richly fullsome, the Swamp delivers on all fronts." Cuisine. From their Middle Road Chardonnay vineyard. This same vineyard has been providing fruit for their Swamp Reserve Chardonnay since the early 1990s. Vintage 2007 was a tremendous year and year after year the fruit from this vineyard exhibits ripe lemon and grapefruit characters. This is interwoven with subtle oak and lees and malolatic frementation derived creaminess. Harmony and balance have become two of the hallmarks of their Swamp Reserve style. This wine has fineness and structure, yet is also incredibly complex and long.

Central Otago - Other, Central Otago, New Zealand
Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards and we've been pushing this wine for some time so its great to see it win this award and weve still got a deal on it down from $35. With the superb Carol Bunn making the wine and the Diceys ( well renowned in Central and major shareholders in Mt Difficulty ) as consultants all the ingredients are there. It scored a 92/100 from Robert Parkers Wine Advocate ( a huge score considering it scored the same as the Felton Rd and outscored such wines as Aimisfield, Carrick, Escarpement and Neudorf ) this is ready for you to enjoy. "The 2006 Pinot Noir is most impressive with a tight nose of black cherries and red currants – quintessential Central Otago with superb delineation and vigour. The palate displays very good weight with vibrant acidity, notes of black cherries, plum, a little black pepper and earth towards the finish. This is an elegant, very focused Pinot Noir with a surprisingly mineral-rich finish."

Gold at the Air NZ Wine Awards and 5 Stars and 5th out of 242 entries in the Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting- " Overflowing with the seductive, dark, floral notes and ripe density that has become the thumbprint of this respected producer. Rich and muscular, forward and elegant, it soars like a certain raptor." Cuisine. Always a consistent , terrific value top line pinot from Central. The fruit for this wine came from the Cromwell basin (80%) and the Gibbston Valley (20%) .

Marlborough - Other, Marlborough, New Zealand
Gold at the Air NZ Wine Show amongst some seriously expensive Syahs- most of the Golds were $45 plus ( only 8 Golds Awarded ). "The 2006 is a pungently varietal red, harvested by hand in the Gimblett Gravels and matured in French and American oak barriques ( 40% new ). Full-coloured, with a fragrant, intensely peppery bouquet and fresh, youthful, blackcurrant and spice flavours...it has excellent depth." M.Cooper
