Lamé with rotten patches zigzagged to restore conductivity If you fence foil or sabre, you'll know just how much wear and tear the average lamé takes in regular use, and how long it's likely to last. If you're armourer for a club, you'll be even more aware of the limited life expectancy of the average lamé.

When a lamé develops dead spots, your choices are limited; either you discard the lamé, or you patch it, or you live with it. Patching works - it's cheaper than a new lame, but it's still expensive. You either cannibalize another lamé or you buy fabric. Either way, it can be expensive.

Detail to illustrate stitchingNow there's a low cost alternative - conductive thread. I did the research, tested in our local club, and would like to share the benefits we've gleaned with you.
