Newer Thumb Drives & Campus Computers

Attention Owners of Newer Thumb Drives

Many/Most Campus Computers will not read Thumbdrives identified as "U3" or with "Launchpad" installed.

If you wish to use these thumb drives on library and other campus computers you will need to run the "U3 Uninstall program".

A copy of the U3 Uninstall Program can be found:

1) On the Dell Pcs in Scholes .. or
2) U:Drive in the "Public/AULibraries" folder.

Backup yout ThumbDrive Files to your U:Drive then Simply run the "U3uninstall.exe" file.  Insert your drive, and follow directions.  This should make your drive usable on campus computers.  Again, you can always bring your drive to the ITS Helpdesk. They will be happy to help you out.

Book and Articles: 2 Different Animals in 2 Different Places.

Sometimes libraries can appear confusing .. (especially at the very last minute when you need information yesterday).   However, there is a method to the madness... read on ...

Books and Articles are 2 different animals.  You need to search in different places and in different ways.

1) Books are found in the "Library Catalog" - use the "Library Catalog" Link on the top naviagtion bar of this page.

2) Journal Articles are found in "Databases" .. we have a quite a large collection of databases that cover a wide range of subjects... To Find Databases:

  1. Browse "E-Resources A-Z" link on the left menu
  2. Broswe by subject in "Research by Subject" button at the top of the home page (Articles Tab)
  3. For Engineers and Artists .. use "Finding Journal Articles" in Engineering or Art Boxes
  4. You can also find articles in a particular Journal by searching for its title using "Journal Locator" link
  5. And finally .. you can always find a database using "Reference Shelf" link and select "Articles" link

How they are different:

The Library CatalogThe catalog is NOT like Google.  It does not undertstand free-text searchingIt does not search the full text or index of the book.  It expects you to input proper subject and keyword terms and to spell them correctly.  Try searching a wide variety of keywords related to your topic.

An Article DatabaseDatabases are more like Google .. but not exactly the same.  Databases will sometimes search the full text of the article and you'll get more hits. If the database contains abstracts, it will likely search them also.  Citations in a database often have more and varied subject terms on which to match your search.
